That's a good question Dave.

Prior to the availability of microfilmed and digitised newspapers, I commenced extracting data from hard copy at the British Library Newspaper Library at Colindale, London (Strabane Morning Post, Londonderry Sentinel, also Journal and Standard) (a great experience) and continued transcribing for a further five forays over the ensuing ten years.

The Strabane Morning Past (1812-37 offered up gold recording the deaths of 3rd & 4th great grandparents and marriages and deaths of their children. I thoroughly recommend access to this old treasure trove.

It's really easy nowadays as there is a great amount of data online, but is absolutely vital to identify the relevance of the content which is what I do by compiling files on a parish basis. Hopefully, researchers find these compilations vital to their success in locating their elusive Irish ancestors.

Overall, newspaper extractions are just a part of my submissions.............

Thanks for your numerous compliments and continued interest, Dave,

Len

Len, thanks!

And yes, quite the context for your 4x GG Grandmother -- I've often wondered, do you read the (presumably microfilmed) old newspapers for the fun of reading them and what stories might exist within?

Appreciate all you do!!

Best, Dave

And thanks for your message, Dave; old newspapers and their contents are absolute treasure offering the flavour of old times and can contain data not available elsewhere and can occasionally fill in gaps that are all to prevalent in missing Irish church records. My maternal 4 th great grandmother, Martha Arbuckle of Strabane, Co. Tyrone died aged 73 years in 1836 after "a lingering illness which she bore with Christian resignation" (Strabane Morning Post).

I still have numerous  items to submit for your enjoyment; hope you can wait,
All the best,
Len

Thanks Len -- I read every one of these... this time, I'm struck by the "tedious illness" comment, as well as someone living to 104, and that she retained all her physical and mental faculties to the last.

These items create, for me at least, a deep connection to the people and land of my forebearers.

Best, Dave
