Still searching after many years for ancestors/relatives of one James
McClure, b. abt 1810 in (most likely) Co. Donegal. He was married to Anne
Knox, date unknown. He first appears in the 1850 U.S. Census for Ross
district, Allegheny Co. (Pittsburgh), PA. With wife Anne, son Francis b.
1847 and William J. b.1850 in the U.S. Along with a David Callen. The
family moved in the late 1850's to Patoka (Princeton), Indiana where they
owned farm property. There were other McClure families there, but don't
know if they were relatives. By 1870 they lived at Effingham, IL where
James died in 1871. William J. was the only son (Blue Mound, IL) to pass on
male descendants, but no males survive to this day that I know of. I have
substantial evidence that James' parents were a Richard McClure and Mary
Russell, but no definite documentation to confirm this. As James' oldest
son was a Francis McClure, is it likely that James' father was also a
Francis? His wife Anne was born at Craigs/Tommyscroft so is it likely James
was from there or nearby Townlands? I hope to find relatives in Ireland or
elsewhere who have dna test results who I might compare with to positively
confirm James' parentage. I have test results at Ancestry.com, Gedmatch,
FamilyTreedna and 23and me. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who can
help me out in this endeavor!
Thanks kindly,
Dennis Roll
