This album is one of my faves - kind of a hidden gem. American folk chamber music. It was self-produced in 2001, and got so much critical acclaim that it was picked up and re-released in 2003. NPR’s “All Songs Considered” featured it. There for a few years I couldn’t turn around without someone recommending this album to me. Now it’s one of the few physical CDs I still own - every time I clear out my collection, I just can’t bear to part with it. I will pull it out and listen to the whole thing every now and then, and it never fails to cast its spell.
So many of these songs will fit in a variety of formats. My favorite track is “Half Acre”. There’s a fine version of the traditional song “Cuckoo”. There are also three lovely instrumentals.
