[ONAIR] Host tips for on air promotion

Hi all! Here are some handy tips to help us all promote our programs
effectively:

When promoting shows, please mention the whole air window, e.g. “Listen to
The Evening Blues every Saturday night from 6:00 to 9:00,” rather than just
the start time, e.g. “…at 6:00.” Giving the whole window gives people a
bigger opportunity to tune in.

The most effective types of promotion, in order, are:

Forward promotion (what’s coming up within the next  zero to 15
minutes—including music you’re about to play or a topic you’re about to
cover, or the next show)

Vertical promotion (what’s coming up later today)

Horizontal promotion (what’s coming at this same time tomorrow)

Diagonal promotion (another show on a different day that has an affinity to
the show you’re hosting now, e.g. promoting The Broken Spoke during The
Road Home or vice-versa; or promoting Central Coast Voices during Issues &
Ideas or vice-versa)

Another type of promotion is when we’re promoting a special or a new
program heavily, or we’re doing a campaign across the schedule to bring
attention to a show. Then we ignore the rules above and just go for it in a
blitz (like we’ve done with Morning Edition and All Things Considered).

Happy promoting!

Marisa

Hi Marisa,
During my show, a pre-recorded show is running from the computer so I can't play the promos.  Is it possible to have a backup CD of all the current show promos in the MCR, or is there a way to bypass the pre-recorded show?
thanks!Jim
