Len, I very much appreciate the work you have been doing - I've not been
fortunate enough to find much relevant information (as far as I know) but I
always check with a hopeful heart :) Thank you for all of the time you've
dedicated to this project!

Len and Jim, thank you for all the time you have put into this great site. I read every post and use the search tools frequently. Yes, your efforts are greatly appreciated by all of us, even the ones
that only lurk in hopes of uncovering a family gem.
Thank you

Dear friends and fellow county Tyroners …..
Sending best wishes and the best of luck to all listers and their kin “and to others like them”, with green wishes for lots of fun in 2022 and beyond.
Ours is a crazy hobby, yet a wonderful one. Never give up on your roots and your brick walls, and do remember you’re never walking or working alone …..
My special and eternal thanks to all on this list for their contributions and postings. To mention a few …
-
It was 20 years ago that Len Swindley from Aussie kindly sent me some freeholder list entries on Mitchells in and around Donagheady, also a few “obscure” newspaper entries, which included a marriage announcement for 1835 for one David Mitchell in Killymallaght -- although my namesake, yet “this definitely not my family”, “never in a month of Sundays”, all was interesting and encouraging, albeit very frustrating in an elusive search …
-
Earl Haslett from Canada kindly shared some of his notes on Mitchells from Cloghore-Greerstown – these supplemented helpful information kindly shared by the late David Todd of Greerstown, the former schoolteacher in Strabane who tackled the Donagheady graveyards, etc ….
-
And the effervescent Faye Logue trawled her notes and transcriptions and her Donagheady memory in her eager and kind willingness to share anything that might help or support ….
-
And we found the families of several County Tyrone offshoots who had crossed the pond to North America ….
Bingo!
There was a “hidden clue” (or half-clue) in the Donagheady parish registers for 1846, a note that I had myself copy-scribbled on a visit to the Donagheady Manse in 1981, tentative and small but still there, just a wee suggestion, but I had gotten it all wrong, didn’t understand the localities, terminologies and handwritings, and I had muddled and confused different families for decades.
Rene Donaghy kindly checked the original register entry at “our” Donagheady Manse – and I think I may have cracked a brick wall after decades of believing this to be downright impossible …
So folks, my message to you for 2022 is this – never give up!
Please join me in expressing appreciation and thanks to and for all the Co. Tyrone stalwarts whose help, guidance, advice and warm friendship make our genealogical research journeys so wonderful.
May you all have a Happy New Year and good health, richest blessings and all the best for 2022.
(And yes, there’s a story or two to be written up and uploaded “in the new year”.)
Take care and do keep safe.

Thank you for the inspiring message, David, and for all you do, Jim and
Len, to pull together all this precious information.
Like others, I've not yet had a breakthrough with the data, but I'm also
chasing County Tyrone and Donegal ancestors in a slightly roundabout way --
I only know that a cluster of descendants of one of my Irish ancestors, one
John Hagan who arrived in Pennsylvania around 1840, and his wife, Lydia
Mills, who may have been from Ireland or from Pennsylvania, have genetic
overlap with a cluster of O'Hagan descendants whose O'Hagans were in
Strabane or Sion Mills by the 1850s and 1860s, when I've been able to find
documentary evidence for those other O'Hagan families. I'm just waiting for
that solid piece of evidence that will show how my Hagans are connected to
those O'Hagans, and I imagine it will someday come from one of Len's
postings!
I've also wished I might be able to help out in some way. Though I'm
American and currently in Virginia, USA, I live in London. So if there is
anything in the British Library that you've got on the
transcribe-me-please-list, please do let me know and I'll book in some
research days when I'm home and London is past its omicron peak. (I have a
reader's room pass and go there about once a week for work.)
All best for 2022,
Yours,
Robin

All best for 2022,
Yours,
Robin

Yes Len, we appreciate your efforts and one can't know in advance if
it's going to be useful to a particular person. Take for example my
experience several years ago when I was perusing a microfilm at the
local LDS centre, when i notice a few pages before the one I was
targeting, the name of my grandmother. It was a census record and I had
been searching for details on her for some time, without success. Here,
serendipitously, I came across her record which confirmed her adopted
status and now to her parents. Cheers and keep up the good work! Gordon

I would like to pass on my thanks too. I do look at every mailing even though I have as yet found nothing that relates to my search. Like many others I look in the hope that some little nugget of information will help with my research. So please keep on doing all that you do as accessing these resources would be so very difficult otherwise, particularly with the way things are at the moment with the pandemic. Do stay well and safe and of course keep up the great work you are doing.
On another note a little message to Robin. I am directly descended from an O'Hagan line who originated in County Down and Tyrone. They seem to change their name from O'Hagan to Hagan as it suits them which is very confusing and makes identifying the right family link hard. Your family could be doing the same. Am currently trying to find out more but have hit that dreaded and frustrating brick wall yet again! They are also connected to the name Carney or Kearney from Tyrone which is proving to be virtually impossible to research. So I look at all the posts sent in the hope that one day I'll find something.
Once again
Thank you
Helena

Thank you for the inspiring message, David, and for all you do, Jim and Len, to pull together all this precious information.
Like others, I've not yet had a breakthrough with the data, but I'm also chasing County Tyrone and Donegal ancestors in a slightly roundabout way -- I only know that a cluster of descendants of one of my Irish ancestors, one John Hagan who arrived in Pennsylvania around 1840, and his wife, Lydia Mills, who may have been from Ireland or from Pennsylvania, have genetic overlap with a cluster of O'Hagan descendants whose O'Hagans were in Strabane or Sion Mills by the 1850s and 1860s, when I've been able to find documentary evidence for those other O'Hagan families. I'm just waiting for that solid piece of evidence that will show how my Hagans are connected to those O'Hagans, and I imagine it will someday come from one of Len's postings!
I've also wished I might be able to help out in some way. Though I'm American and currently in Virginia, USA, I live in London. So if there is anything in the British Library that you've got on the transcribe-me-please-list, please do let me know and I'll book in some research days when I'm home and London is past its omicron peak. (I have a reader's room pass and go there about once a week for work.)
All best for 2022,
Yours,
Robin

Dear friends and fellow county Tyroners …..
Sending best wishes and the best of luck to all listers and their kin “and to others like them”, with green wishes for lots of fun in 2022 and beyond.
Ours is a crazy hobby, yet a wonderful one. Never give up on your roots and your brick walls, and do remember you’re never walking or working alone …..
My special and eternal thanks to all on this list for their contributions and postings. To mention a few …
* It was 20 years ago that Len Swindley from Aussie kindly sent me some freeholder list entries on Mitchells in and around Donagheady, also a few “obscure” newspaper entries, which included a marriage announcement for 1835 for one David Mitchell in Killymallaght -- although my namesake, yet “this definitely not my family”, “never in a month of Sundays”, all was interesting and encouraging, albeit very frustrating in an elusive search …
* Earl Haslett from Canada kindly shared some of his notes on Mitchells from Cloghore-Greerstown – these supplemented helpful information kindly shared by the late David Todd of Greerstown, the former schoolteacher in Strabane who tackled the Donagheady graveyards, etc ….
* And the effervescent Faye Logue trawled her notes and transcriptions and her Donagheady memory in her eager and kind willingness to share anything that might help or support ….
* And we found the families of several County Tyrone offshoots who had crossed the pond to North America ….

Jim, Len and all… I thank y’all for what y’all have done. My brick wall is in Co Tyrone and y’all have helped me at least cross off places they’re not! I can track here in the states without a problem but still I don’t have the hang of researching in PRONI. May 2022 be the year I break down the wall with all of y’all’s help. Happy New Year and thank you thank you thank you for all y’all have done. Pat Taggart O’Fallon

Thanks for the accolades, Jim, which are much appreciated.
I'm hoping to keep up a similar momentum as that for 2021 with the submission of a total of 200+ files covering pre1900 data relevant to Cos. Tyrone, Donegal, Londonderry and Fermanagh. However, the rather big question is do any/ many of them prove interesting to researchers as feedback is a most rare event.
Happy New Year to all and continued success with researching your forebears,
