Hey Gene -
You might want to check out AirBnB for deals. I don't think too many owners
are on to the race weekend yet. I found this one when I was thinking about
going. It looks like it is close to the track. It is still available now.

Yes, likely. Though the corporate guys know it. Immediately after the
announcement, rates were already high downtown. Bit the bullet and
booked (preferring to stay parked and walk to evening events).

What they all know is it's the first weekend of Austin City Limits.
That's about as big an event as there is. So if you want to be downtown
it's even rate regardless if its private or corporate. If you want to be
near COTA that's probably not event rate.

$69 per night for a tiny house that is close to the track looks pretty good
to me. I would have jumped on it but Barber is the next weekend and October
3 is our anniversary.

Glad your ok Gene. Those roads out there are great when they are clean but the loose stuff is nasty, especially because there are so many dirt roads that intersect asphalt. As for hwy 290 in Austin in that area it's a circus! Usually very heavy traffic during commuting hours and not very friendly traffic at that. Not a huge tourist area per se... more of a gateway to the hill country and points west and south. Fredericksburg and Wimberley come to mind and the Original Salt Lick BBQ place is in that direction. Turned into a more upscale tourist place in recent years with a vineyard and more "organized " dining. Still decent though.Getting to Cota from there means a decent slog across the I 35 corridor which depending on when you go can be just that...a real slog. I am not sure of the dates for South × Southwest, but if it's going on, all of Austin becomes a mess and there is a fair amount of road construction going on all over so wherever you land expect pretty heavy traffic. I moved back to Texas, specifically to New Braunfels a few years back...about 45 minutes down from Cota and can tell you that the growth here is off the charts. With that growth came all the problems of lack of infrastructure, specifically roads. Anyone coming down here on a bike be extra cautious as the level of aggressive drivers has increased exponentially the last couple of years. Not the same place I grew up in. Have even considered writing the state government and telling them that they should remove the "drive friendly" signs at state border crossings. It is not so friendly anymore. You might even consider New Braunfels, San Marcos or Gruene for hotel options. There are some places on the local rivers that are decent and the local food and drink establishments are pretty decent too.If you want to reach out email me and I will do my best to answer any questions.Take care, Tony Gonzalez Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
