Hi Len, It's possible that some in the list may be related to 'my'
Millars and Mowbrays from Cumber? Any way to cross check? Gordon

James Mowbray, father of William (1831-1906, born Cumber Lower - a brisk
walk from Cumber Upper)

John Millar, father of James Millar/Miller (1807-1862)

Good Evening, Gordon!

Trust you are surviving the conditions in hot Adelaide (and even hotter tomorrow).

It will be almost impossible to prove a relationship between the Millers and Mowbrays of Cumber (Lower & Upper parishes); a result of the paucity of surviving early church records. I'm guessing that these families were Presbyterians?

I'm listing the surviving church records which have been filmed by the staff of PRONI and others archived in the Presbyterian Historical Society, Belfast:

CHURCH OF IRELAND, CUMBER LOWER (Derry diocese)

Baptisms, 1804-77; marriages, 1806-45; burials, 1828 and 1855-70; vestry minutes, 1801-70, with baptism and marriage entries. PRONI Ref: MIC583/33

PRESBYTERIAN, CUMBER LOWER

Baptisms, 1827-67; marriages, 1843 MIC1P/147 1906

CHURCH OF IRELAND, CUMBER UPPER (Derry diocese)

Baptisms, 1811-18 and 1826-72; marriages, 1811-14 and 1826-45; burials, 1837-1900; vestry minutes, 1807-95; list of vestrymen, 1870 and 1877 PRONI Refs: MIC1/15/2; MIC1/16

PRESBYTERIAN, CUMBER UPPER

Baptisms, 1874-1983; marriages, 1845 MIC1P/148 1936

Baptisms, 1827-74; marriages, 1834-45. In Presbyterian Historical Society

The C of I records commence in the early nineteenth century, but are of little value when for you searching for your folks in the preceding 200 years from the time of the Plantation.

I'll take a look at the Freeholders lists and Poll books for the parish hoping to locate early-ish references to these settlers and their townlands.

All the best, Gordon

Len
