Hi Chris - I have a man in my tree, born in Donegal, who returned from New South Wales, Australia, in about 1883 While I have not been able to find his passage back, yet, I suggest you consider that many ships carrying Irish went from the Colonies or US via Scotland, often Glasgow - the same way that many left. I only knew of this journey, because he returned in time for the 1901 census, and his wife's birthplace was listed. Check the Scottish censuses just in case your person was there at the time, prior to their onward journey to Ireland The other major port of travel was Cork. You can track ships via the 'Shipping News' in newspapers (the british newspaper archive will tell you when they arrive in Port - you can get a month's subscription cheaply)).
