Vintage Duc question

Hi Vicki,

Ever since I saw the pictures of NewBlue, met you and Rich at DuckStock,
saw the Cafe 31 bike, and saw some of his amazing work, including his
beautiful Giro bike, I've wanted to have a bike built by Rich. To me, and
I'm sure to a lot of people in the know, he's the paramount of Ducati
builders. But, the last time I talked to your about it you mentioned that
he's not building bikes anymore, except for the private commissions you
guys take on. So...
I've been saving my pennies for some time now, and I'm getting closer to a
number I think might actually be enough to get a vintage bike. I've been
back and forth a dozen times on if I want a true vintage classic, a good
runner, or a "restomod" if you will. They all have their pros and cons.
So time for me to pick your brain again, if you'll let me.
First is what do you think is the best "type" of vintage bike to get. I've
narrowed my choices down to an Elite 175/200 or a Mach 1/3. I'd like to
ride it, show it and some day pass it on to my son to carry on with. So
investment value isn't high on my list as I don't intend to sell it anytime
soon, if ever.
Second, once I decide on the type of bike, who should I go to either to try
and find what I'm looking for or to build it? I'm not ready to jump into
the auction game on my own, and I'd rather have the guidance of a
knowledgeable and trustworthy person to work with.
Lastly, I'm budgeting about 10-12k, do you think that would be a reasonable
amount that will get me something nice and usable.
I know I've covered a lot of ground. And I understand if you don't have the
time, either all at once or at all, to guide me through this. It's just
that your the person I know who has the most knowledge and that I truly
trust to help me.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this and thanks in advance
should you take on the task of answering my questions.
I hope to see you guys again soon someday, and maybe even get down there to
Florida to see your collection and office and Rich's workshop someday. Talk
to you soon.

Hi Jimi,
I think in your price range you might consider leaning towards a Wide case Mark 3 DESMO because it’s a solid rider and Rich thinks you might find a better bike in that price range.  I know you might not be ready yet but when you are I’ll speak to Rich about what we might have we would sell. We have been pushing off a deadline when we are going to lose a warehouse I own that’s under contract and there are at least 30 bikes in there. So I know I need to thin down, like it or not...
Hope you are good..
