I'm trying to piece all the many Holmes' together - I'm the 3xGreat
granddaughter of Mathew Holmes, born in Strabane, County Tyrone 1817, who
then moved to Australia and eventually NZ where he was a large landowner
and politician, died 1901.
I think I tracked down his parents' grave near Strabane, on a visit there a
few years ago, (or one possibility for his parents - James and Elizabeth
Holmes, we think nee Watson), but then the trail goes cold... We also think
we may have found some brothers and sisters we didn't know existed!
I did come across Robert from the Isle of Wight (and his ancestors) but
haven't yet been able to connect the two for sure. That Holmes line does
seem like the most likely link though and is on my to do list to
investigate more.
I'd love to collude with other "Holmes" connected people who are interested
to try to crack the code! :-) It sounds like you might have more info about
his descendants that I don't have, which I'd love to see. Feel free to
email me direct off the list (I think you can see my email address?)
