To All,
I hate to bother everyone on this, however I am at a standstill on my research and welcome any and all advice! My wife and I are heading to Ireland in late August and we plan on doing some genealogy work on both her family and mine.
On my side, I believe my 2nd Great Grandfather James Rodgers emigrated with his three siblings and unfortunately, I do not know if their parents were still living and stayed in Ireland or were deceased at that time. Here is the information I was able to find on the Barque Envoy manifest.
May 4, 1849 departed Londonderry for Philadelphia, PA, USAFrancis Rodgers age 20 ~ 1829James Rodgers age 18 ~ 1831Mary Rodgers age 16 ~ 1833Eleanor Rodgers age 14 ~ 1835
It is very possible that my 3rd Great Grandfather & Grandmother had siblings that remained in Ireland and I am hoping to be able to connect when we are there in late August. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Liam,
Thanks for that idea as I have not pursued the MacRory side.

It may help you (or not) to know that the Irish name MacRory was sometimes anglicised to Rodgers/Rogers.

Hi Jim,
This is the only Rodgers/Rogers family in the 1858 Griffiths Valuation in
the Parish of Urney, which is the parish covering the Castlederg area, and
it IS a James so, with the Irish naming convention, it could be the father
of your James:
Griffith's Valuation Record Information
Tenant
Family Name 1 ROGERS
Forename 1 JAMES
Landlord
Family Name 2 IRWIN
Forename 2 WILLIAM
Location
County TYRONE
Barony STRABANE, LOWER
Union STRABANE
Parish URNEY
Townland MAGIRR
Place Name BRIDGE END
Place Type OTHER
Publication Details
Position on Page 46
Printing Date 1858
Act 15&16
Sheet Number
Map Reference 24 55
James held a reasonable sized property on the edge of Strabane, which is
NOT Castlederg and makes it more likely he would have given Strabane as his
address rather than Castlederg. You do not say why you think it is
Castlederg that was your Rogers home.
This source can be found here and comes with maps which often identify the
exact spot in the townland of Magirr where the Rogers would have lived:
https://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You would need to use the GV Revision Books, BMDs and the two censuses of
1901 and 1911 to see what happened to this James Rogers, what age he was
and whether he had any siblings. That requires quite a lot of research and
expertise.
There being no other Rodgers family in either Urney or Termonamongen, the
parish next door to Urney and close to Castlederg, you would want to pursue
this family. However, as you say it is possible the father was deceased or
already in America, or left shortly after.
This is the best we can do because there are no civil BMD records for the
period you mention, they only began in 1864, and church records are hard to
come by and often do not go that far back either. Btw, were your folks
Catholic or Protestant? Rogers could be either. If Protestant then
Protestant marriages start in 1845 and if Catholic, Catholic church
registers are online here:

Hope this is of some assistance,
Boyd Gray
