Dear Listers - and especially Len and Jim

Thank you so much for posting these family notes.

What Len does too, is not just to transcribe the marriage entry - he also
does this in a way that records also the officiating clergyman.

In 1848, Thomas Black and Hanna Gilmore were married in Belfast, in the
Linenhall Street Church (Reformed Presbyterian), by the Rev. Robert Knox ..

  • I could find, from  www.irishgenealogy.ie
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie  the actual marriage register entry - in
    Rev. Robert Knox's own handwriting

  • This on a page of several marriages, all by him, and where he
certified the whole page too - so lots of examples of his signature

  • By looking at the .pdf pages before and after (just change the last
digit in the page number), I could get examples from several pages

Rev. Robert Knox was a County Tyrone man, the 3rd son of Hugh Knox at Urney
and grandson of Gustavus Knox of Little Drumenny, both in co. Tyrone.

He was also a great-uncle to my own grandfather.

So, thanks, Len - you've done it again!    You've given me a bookful of his
own original handwriting, from over 170 years ago ..

Your kindness and thoroughness makes for marvellous help and exciting
discoveries for others.

Thank you, thank you and thank you again!  All 100 000 of them thank you's
..

Dear Len, Jim and Dave

I too appreciate all the work done to make records available to the
diaspora.

I carefully read every new addition looking for my Black and other
surnames from the barony of Dungannon, County Tyrone. Alas, I haven't
yet found the records for a Black family with a possible father of
Robert or James (using Scots-Irish naming custom) whose children were
born from 1802 - 1822. Some children must have remained in Co. Tyrone
because only 4, with their families, travelled to Canada.

Has anyone ever transcribed the list of passengers for the Nelson
Village which left Belfast May 19, 1847 and arrived at Quebec June 26, 1847?

I now have two possible clues that they may have come on that ship. What
company owned that particular ship?

Your work is a blessing to many. Thank you.

Dear Dave,
I would be interested in seeing your Knox tree.  I have Knoxes in the line that I am investigating, from Strabane.  In the mid-late 1700s there were several in the town, at least two of them running inns/pubs.  I had the impression that they may have links to Knoxes at Dungannan, but Urney is much closer at hand.  My knowledge is based entirely on a few deeds.

Hello Susan,

Thanks for your kind comments.

I venture to say that the passenger list of the Nelson Village has not been transcribed; certainly not on the Ships List website www.theshipslist.com/1847/shipsjune1847b.shtmlhttp://www.theshipslist.com/1847/shipsjune1847b.shtml

Ship Arrivals Quebec, Canada June 1847 part 2http://www.theshipslist.com/1847/shipsjune1847b.shtml
Mr. Wm. Henry, of this city, furnished the Exchange, yesterday, with the following extracts of letters received by the Eastern Mail:--"Chatham, 3 rd June, 1847 "Captain Thain, of the ship Loostauk, 636 tons, from Liverpool to Quebec, out 7 weeks, had, when she left Liverpool, 349 passengers, out of which 117 have died, and of the ship's crew only five are able to work.

Arr. Quebec June 27 1847; Master: McBernie, 264 passengers; consigned to W. Henry. Is there a record repository in Canada dedicated to maritime immigration - perhaps they could assist?

Thank you, Len

Your ongoing work is hugely appreciated.

I had continued to search myself and found this record. The passenger
numbers for the Nelson Village are a little higher than the source you gave.

I also read through the booklet and found that these passengers were not
assisted immigrants.

I believe that a large group from County Tyrone traveled on this ship
and ended up in Simcoe County Ontario.

No proof so far, but I did find a death at sea of a 2 year old which
could be of my family.

Notes, Cos. Donegal, Fermanagh, Londonderry & Tyrone

Village which left Belfast May 19, 1847 and arrived at Quebec June 26,
1847?

I now have two possible clues that they may have come on that ship.
What company owned that particular ship?

Your work is a blessing to many. Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting these family notes.

What Len does too, is not just to transcribe the marriage entry – he
also does this in a way that records also the officiating clergyman.

In 1848, Thomas Black and Hanna Gilmore were married in Belfast, in
the Linenhall Street Church (Reformed Presbyterian), by the Rev.
Robert Knox ….

  • I could find, from www.irishgenealogy.ie
    http://www.irishgenealogy.ie
     the actual marriage register
entry – in Rev. Robert Knox’s own handwriting

  • This on a page of several marriages, all by him, and where he
certified the whole page too – so lots of examples of his signature

  • By looking at the .pdf pages before and after /(just change the
last digit in the page number),/ I could get examples from
    several pages

Rev. Robert Knox was a County Tyrone man, the 3rd son of Hugh Knox at
Urney and grandson of Gustavus Knox of Little Drumenny, both in co.
Tyrone.

He was also a great-uncle to my own grandfather.

So, thanks, Len – /you’ve done it again!/    You’ve given me a
bookful of his own original handwriting, from over 170 years ago ….

Your kindness and thoroughness makes for marvellous help and exciting
