Thanks for all the nice comments. It wasn't actually a huge effort. After all my research, all these loose pieces were floating around in my head and in my notes. Writing it up like this was a way of tidying it up and making sure that everything was in place and that all my decisions were validated. It also makes it so much easier to come back to at a later date, when someone asks me a question. But the main thing was to make all that hard work accessible after I have shuffled off this mortal coil. Because most of it has nothing to do with my wife's direct line, it will never feature in an account that we will write up for her family, so it would just be lost. And already I have had responses from other "Moff" researchers and together we have straightened out the Clonturkle/Tonywall part of the picture, I think, and showing that some of the common assumptions are wrong. I encourage others to have a go at making their research available in this way. If those of us who take care in our work can show the way, perhaps there will not be so many howlers made in trees on Ancestry and the like! Wishful thinking, I know.
