--- Forget all that - talk to me about your FZR400

Indeed.  Twist my arm.  Have a pair of 1989 Models, more of less.  One
caught on fire (or the battery did) when I was too much in a hurry for a
test ride and swapped with the Shorai lithium from my KTM EXC400.
What could go wrong?  According to my brother, (after the fact) quite a
bit.  Like KTM's electrical systems use AC.    But why would that
matter if only swapping the battery?

Thought the voltage regulator (Of the FZR400) was working fine but there
are obviously a few things I did not consider.  Or the rectifier was
unhappy after all.  Or both.

Do these bikes put out large amounts of voltage?  The man (Terry) who was
helping me I highly doubt checked everything out as well as he could have.
I'm partially to blame since I took for granted he Would check out (I asked
him to "go over" the bike for me, get it running better than I was able)
such things and didn't specifically request it.

At any rate, I'm just kind of rambling.  Spoke with a "real" mechanic (it's
his day job) today who I'd like to work with and he seemed keen on the idea.

So Pags, I definitely  appreciate the offer to talk about the Yamaha.
Bottom line at the moment, is there anything inherent about them that isn't
covered in the shop manual?  I know it will be a keeper if I can get it
happy enough to want to keep me, as it were.  Thinking of swapping
everything over to the track bike chassis so I can get it titled (w/o
salvage stamp).  As evil as the DMV is here, they are pretty OK about
letting us get bikes back on the road/registered (more than 10 years out of
the "system.")    Because... more money for them.

I'd love an FZR400 in good running shape and have a person willing help to
this.  I don't trust myself 100%, as little details from previous traumatic
brain injuries rear their heads at inopportune moments.

Last thought.  I'm currently parting out and have possession of a 1982
YZ490 motor with 5 speed transmission ( YZ465 internals? not sure) which
runs OK but will need seals all around.  Inside looks nice.  Be a TAD more
difficult to get plated with a 2 stroke MX engine in it.  Also seems a
recipe for "what the F did I just do?!?" if I ran it in "happy mode"
(read, flogged it).

Any suggestions on anything would be great.  If you wanna take this off
list, might be the thing to do

Ride well!  Thank you

Gabriel
