Like making lemonade out of lemons.
I have two items to share.
First, for those of you who missed the news in January about the huge
snowstorm in Madrid Spain, here are two links to videos. One is
cross-country skiing down the street.

and the other is someone skiing down a terraced staircase.

Second, some years ago, a friend and I were riding our Bici rental bikes
around Montreal, which is what one does on holiday in Montreal, and
happened upon the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve racing circuit. We had no
knowledge of it beforehand, and were surprised that it was open for joggers
and bicyclists. So, of course, we did a lap. It was a fun diversion from
all the other touristy things we did there.

Kevin, you reminded me of something surprising that happened to me there as well. 1993, I was attending Montreal F1 there because big changes were coming to the cars the next year and I wanted to see Senna in action before they changed the rules. (He did not disappoint and sadly I never saw him race again) As we were leaving the circuit someone handed me a flyer for an international fireworks competition, the Montreal Fireworks Festival, that would take place on the banks of the river that evening. We didn’t have plans so we decided to check it out. The display was Pyromusical which means it is matched and set to music and if I recall correctly there were fireworks on the ground and in the sky and maybe even lasers? People were all spread out on the river banks by a bridge, with radios tuned into the matching broadcast which was all kinds of music, classical, rock, everything. It was beyond amazing, made more so for the unexpectedness of it. Now we are dazzled everyday by one thing or another but back then, pre modern electronics, dazzling had to be done the old fashioned way. I have no idea if it is a normal part of F1 weekend but other than 2020 I think it still goes on with a fancier name.

Vicki, the Montreal International Fireworks Competition has been going strong
since 1985 and remains one of Montrealâs top summer attractions. It is not
part of the F1 celebrations but sometimes the dates fall coincide.

Vicki, that must have been a treat. You reminded me of something else,
completely NDC nor motorcycling nor racing, but fireworks.
I was visiting my brother in Philadelphia during the country's
bicentennial, and we went to Independence Mall to watch the fireworks. The
company hired to put on the show was accustomed to driving the launch pads
into the ground for stability, but the mall was all paved. Because of this,
the pads tilted and wavered at launch, and the fireworks, instead of going
way up in the air and exploding, shot directly over our heads and
exploded. A news cameraman was hit by one, the spectators were scattering,
but my brother and I, who had been smoking weed, just laid back is awe and
amazement until his roommate came and dragged us away; It was right after
the camera person was injured that they ended the show. It was
unforgettable.
Then, there was the homemade fireworks competition in Remedios, Cuba, but
that's another story.
And, there were the fireworks named Mascleta, in Valencia, Spain last year,
that I witnessed as the Pandemic was closing in on the city, but that's
another story yet.
