Here is the featured album. It will fit on a BUNCH of shows. Please check
it out and make it fit on yours. Maybe Janelle can include some words of
encouragement to you since it is her pick.

So Leyla McCalla is a musical scholar loves to do "project" albums - she
did a Langston Hughes tribute a few years back.
This one, Breaking the Thermometer to Hide the Fever, explores her
Haitian roots, and is an homage to Radio Haiti - it was the country's first
independent ration stations and one of the few to broadcast in Haitian
Creole. There's an archive of recordings at Duke University, and they gave
her access to do this project, along with some live performances. The album
stemmed from that series.
This might sound a little dry and boring, but it's actually really vivid,
melodic, and varied. "Vini We", a Haitian love song, is my favorite. She
also does a bang-up cover of Caetano Veloso's "You Don't Know Me". The
story behind the original song is pretty cool in itself, but I don't wanna
go down that rabbit hole. Her version is haunting.
"Fort Dimanche" is about a former military prison in Haiti. She sings in
French, English, and Creole.
This whole album is just a treasure-chest. Every time I listen to it I hear
something new.
Have fun!
