City of San Luis Obispo, CA: New Buckley Road Extension Opening This
Weekend
Good morning,
Greg and I confirmed with SLO City that it will be illegal to make a left
turn into our complex when driving down S. Higuera. It will probably add an
additional 3-4 minutes to continue down S. Higuera, past Los Osos Valley
Road, turn left at the new Buckley Road intersection, and then turn left
onto Vachell Lane.
While this will be an inconvenience for those of us coming to KCBX, it will
curtail the # of vehicles speeding through our parking lots.
There are more road additions/changes coming, and we’ll let you know if we
see new problems or enhancements to getting to or from our building. Let us
know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Frank

Subject: BREAKING NEWS! Permanent changes to accessing KCBX at Vachell
Lane
Hi everyone,
Please read the notice below. These BIG changes begin THIS Saturday,
September 10.
I’ve highlighted a couple of key points below. On a positive note, this
change will improve our chances of survival when traveling to Los Osos
Valley Rd from KCBX!
But, I am concerned, (if it is still legal for vehicles coming down S.
Higuera to turn left into the driveway in front of the next building in our
complex) that we’ll have more vehicles racing through our driveways. Be
extra careful as we see how it shakes out.
Let me know if you have any questions. And share this with anyone not on
our distribution list who might be visiting, especially while this is new.
Thanks!
Frank

This Weekend
New Buckley Road Extension Opening This WeekendStarting Saturday,
September 10, 2022, the Buckley Road extension will be open and Vachell
Lane will be right-turns in, right-turns out only at South Higuera Street.

Beginning Saturday,* September 10, 2022, the Buckley Road extension to
South Higuera Street will be open to the public and access at the Vachell
Lane/South Higuera intersection will be restricted to right-turns in,
right-turns out only.* Drivers who previously made left truns at the South
Higuera/Vachell Lane intersection will need to use the new Buckley Road
extension south of Los Osos Valley Road.
The Buckley Road extension, by the Avila Ranch housing development, was
created to improve east-west circulation and provide an alternative to the
Vachell Road/South Higuera intersection, which has had ongoing issues with
congestion and collisions with drivers attempting left-turn movements.
Avila Ranch is a new development that will ultimately include up to 720
single family homes and apartments on a 150-acre site north of Buckley
Road, located within the Airport Area Specific Plan (AASP) boundaries. The
project also includes 15,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail and
office uses next to a neighborhood park, as well as the preservation of
agricultural uses and open space.
For more information about the new Buckley Road extension, please email
traffic@slocity.org.
