Hi KCBX people!
I’m excited to announce that KCBX will welcome a new full-time reporter to
our newsroom, starting on September 9th. Adam will be at our on-air host
meeting on September 10th, so please say hi and introduce yourselves.
Adam Solorzano is part of the California Local News Fellowship through UC
Berkeley, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in
journalism. He will be reporting for KCBX for two years, as an employee of
the University of California.
Adam is a fluent Spanish speaker and will be reporting on communities of
color, education, mass incarceration & policing, and agricultural
communities, etc. He has skills with video, audio, multimedia, public
records requests, and more.
Here’s a piece he wrote that gives a good description of his background and
reasons for being interested in reporting on mass incarceration & policing:

One very cool project he worked on with a KQED reporter was for the
California Reporting Project. They did a piece about people who died after
being held face down by California police officers. Adam’s reporting
contributed to this story in the Guardian (and on KQED and other CA public
radio stations) by Emily Zentner and Lisa Pickoff-White:

And here are five video reporting projects he did when he was a student at
Cal:

We truly look forward to welcoming Adam into the KCBX family and putting
his skills to work in the newsroom to serve our community.
Hooray!
Marisa
