Sounds like a great ride anyway!
Thanks again for the travel tips.
In ‘16, I did do 10 days on both islands of NZ..to see a race featuring Aaron Slight, Wes Cooley, Croz and others.
I rented a Suzuki baby V-strom from one of Croz’s buds and it was flawless.
But we were able to pack very light for many reasons.
Hotels and my riding partner had friends along the way.
And do contact Brent Forker if you pass through Ithaca, NY.
Beautiful area!
He and his wife, Jet, are the most gracious hosts/ friends.
And he’s got room on his property!
I think I’ll run up there first!

Marlinton.... reminds me of my 2007 cross country trek on my '98ST2 to the
Eastern STMadness and then back to the Western Madness in Torrey, Utah. If
I remember correctly the entire trip was around 22 days and 12,000km. I
miss my ST2's, had two of them, second one was a 2000.
The 2007 trip was made without GPS or cell phone and stack of paper maps.
My riding companion from Marlinton back to Torrey did have a Zumo. I
carried a few basic repair tools including LT's alloy wrench for wheel
removal. I carried a tire plugging kit but never needed it. I had lined
up new tires in Knoxville where I was connecting with another ST rider
heading to Marlinton.
The only mechanical I had was rear wheel bearings as I approached Kansas
City-man what a scary noise that made! I checked into one of the first
motels I got to and phoned the AAA for a tow to the Duc dealer(Letko Cycles
at the time). Of course I arrived in Kansas City on Memorial Day so I left
a voicemail at Letko's saying my bike and I would be showing up the next
morning for repairs. They were waiting for me when I got there and had me
back on the road a couple of hours later with new wheel bearings and a new
rear tire.
One thing I always take these days is a basic first aid kit that includes
among other things, antibiotic ointment, antinflammatories, antihistamines,
and a good supply of any prescriptions I'm on(seems there's always
something!).
I didn't realize how tired I was until I got home. Probably should have
taken a few more rest days along the way.

Oh.. and Brent and I did a DOC Italy trip back in ‘03 to A1-Ring in Zeltwig.
Met Jim Calamdro on that one.
That was an awesome trip..except for the ride back when we came around a blind curve near Belluno.. a little too fast and was met with stopped traffic.
Ruined an ST4 and a Dane that was on my wheel went down under an approaching lorry but survived....long story behind all that.
Gotta love EU medical system.. back then, anyway.
The Dane and I got tickets for crashing with no witnesses or apparent reason or fault... except they see a crash as some error. Makes sense to me.
We came back and he bought a 748!
And he’s had an epic beard long before they became fashionable!
