Tony, so great to hear from you. I still have great memories of shipping my Diavel to your Brother's house in North Austin, attending MotoGP at COTA and then riding back to Virginia. Forever grateful to you and your brother.

I did not realize you had moved from NoVa, I don't ride often in the Waterford area anymore, but that day I was taking the route Bill and I would take to the Barbara Fritchie Classic and the route he was on when he had the heart attack.

Thanks for the info.

I hope you and your family are doing well, maybe I'll see you at COTA in October.

GeneI am so glad you are ok.Since we are all sharing some unscheduled get off's,I will share mine.August of 2010, came home to a note on the garage door to call my wife. They had gone to Leesburg and wanted to know if I wanted to join them for some Chinese food.  Needless to say...yes!Beautiful afternoon, temps just right, sticky tires on the 999, and I could make the run over the mountain to Lucketts and meet them there and follow them to dinner. Screaming over the hill I came to the s turns, dragging my knee and about to flip to the left around a blind curve, a deer popped out of the tree line. Decision time... drop the bike and perhaps slide into whatever may be coming around the blind turn... or roll off the throttle and take my chances in the grass and brush.Rolled off the gas and hit the edge of the road still moving pretty quick.Managed to miss a 3 foot wide tree and mail box. What I didn't miss was the concrete culvert hidden behind the grass. When things stopped moving I got up and people were surrounding me telling me to sit.The impact threw me and the bike pretty high, I came down first and the bike came down on top of me.What I didn't realize until later was my left arm was shattered, my hand was shattered, left shoulder broken with broken collar bone and a bunch of busted ribs... oh yeah... both lungs punctured with my sternum pushed almost to my spine, with blood coming out of my mouth.A little brain bruising to boot.Handlebars snapped off at impact and all energy transfer is what shattered my arm and hand.I have a fun bump and screw shaped indent on my sternum to this day from the adjusting screws at the top of the fork. The only thing that kept me from dying on the spot was the Alpinestars my girls gave me for fathers day.Bike was a total loss. About the only thing I remember from the first few weeks was the look on my wife's face when the doctor told her he wasn't sure if I would survive, and if I did make it, he wasn't sure whether I would recover to a "normal me" or even work again. Not sure whether I have even been "normal" but he didn't know that.Obviously he underestimated Duc rider will power and I was working again, albeit in a fair amount of pain that January.Oh, and as much as that hurt, I made the right decision.  A pickup and a station wagon were coming around the curve in the opposite direction.  I wouldn't have survived being run over by one or both of them,  of that I'm certain.Anyway, that's my crash story. After I recovered I spent a fair amount of time thinning the deer on my property. Figured if there were so many in Loudoun County that they were running around during daylight hours some thinning needed to be done.Moral of the story, as you said Gene... wear your gear! Wear it all! It saved my life and certainly sounds like it saved you some surgery as well. You take care and pass on my greetings to the gang for me.Tony Gonzalez Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
