Online talk hosted by LibrariesNI on Wednesday, 10 February 2021, 2:30pm -
3:30pm GMT (9:30a.m. - 10:30a.m. EST)

With origins in Scotland, the Elder family settled in County Donegal in the
seventeenth century and became farmers in the Newtowncunningham area.
Drawing on a range of sources, this talk looks at some aspects of the story
of this family, including their alleged involvement in the United Irishmen
in the 1790s and their association with the Presbyterian Church. Attention
is focused in particular on the life of Andrew Elder (1821-86), the
speaker's great-great-great-grandfather, who, having returned from
Australia, moved to a farm near Castlefin, where he became a prominent
campaigner for land reform.

To book a place email heritage.talks@librariesni.org.uk
