Hi all! I’ve heard the name Lucia (as in Santa Lucia Mountains and Lucia Mar Unified School District) pronounced a few different ways this week. The correct pronunciation is loo-SEE-ah. That’s because we use the Spanish pronunciation. Even though Saint Lucy was Roman, and the Italians call her Santa loo-CHEE-ah, the place names around our area were named by Spaniards (way back in 1602). Also, it’s definitely not pronounced LOO-shah. Thank you!
