Hello All,

Thank you Jim for allowing me to join this group.

I have been able to trace several of my ancestors back to Co. Tyrone. My
evidence based records of those that emigrated to Victoria, Australia are
from their adopted homeland and not Tyrone. If anyone has come across or
has any information which can confirm these Australian records it would be
greatly appreciated:

Robert ALEXANDER (Segully, Longfield East) b. ~1834, emigrated 1855 aboard
the Victoria Regia. Parents John & Rebecca (TURNER).

Sarah BEATTY (Willmount, Longfield West) b. ~1838 emigrated with her Father
1856 aboard the Almora. Father Charles Beatty. Married Robert Alexander in
Victoria 1857.

Alexander YOUNG (Edenafogry or Edenafogery, Donacavey) b. ~1834 Cannot find
his emigration records however was married in Victoria in 1861. Parents:
John YOUNG and Isabella (OSBORNE)

The County Tyrone webpage has great records and information, but I am
unable to find the smoking gun which records them in the triangle between
Omagh, Dromore and Drumquin.

If anyone has any information, please shout out, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank You and kind regards.

Byron,

Griffiths Valuation for Segully in 1860 lists a John Alexander. He appears to have married Margaret Turner at Drumquin Presbyterian in 1858. His father was John Alexander. Hers John Turner. Both parties lived in Segully. He died 22.5.1896 aged 65, so he looks like a possible brother to your Robert Alexander.

The Will of John Alexander late of Segully County Tyrone Farmer who died 24 May 1896 was proved at Londonderry by Joseph Turner of Drumbonish and Daniel Wilson of Muckinagh Farmers the Executors.

The above will is in-line on the PRONI site and mentions a second family farm in Drumrawn which is left to son Robert.

Unfortunately Drumquin Presbyterian’s records only start in 1845 so if that’s where the Alexanders were baptised, there are no records to search.

Alexander James of Segully Drumquin county Tyrone farmer died 2 July 1937 Probate Londonderry 18 March to Eliza Jane Alexander the widow and Charles Hugh Gormley farmer. Effects £60.

Family were still in Segully in 1937 and perhaps later. Have you considered a DNA test with any living descendants in Tyrone, if they are willing?

Lack of early enough church records will probably be the obstacle to finding the baptisms for Sarah & Alexander too.
