Hi all!
I had sent out a previous email saying we couldn’t announce La Doña is
playing our main stage until after her show with Durand Jones at the
Fremont. Well, the second show is tonight, so go ahead and announce her
now. The updated schedule is attached, including pronunciations.
La Doña is an exciting San Francisco-based Reggaeton musician who sings and
plays trumpet. Her band is excellent. Here are some videos, so you can
check her out:

Here’s a quick bio:
Growing up in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, this activist
and educator started her career at age 7, playing trumpet and percussion in
her family’s conjunto band. Now reggaeton singer, songwriter, and
multi-instrumentalist Cecilia Peña-Govea performs her signature mix of
Latin rhythms and San Francisco hip hop under the name La Doña,
encapsulating various musical genres to express who she is. She coined the
term “Femmeton” to describe her reggaeton tunes with a feminist
perspective, featuring songs about love, gentrification, and what she calls
“the radical joys of being a queer brown woman in the Bay Area.” La Doña
has won accolades for eclectic, fresh, urgent songs described by New York
Times Magazine as “songs that matter now.”
She definitely fits eclectic, world music and Latin shows. She has some
music that could fit other shows, too, so please explore her stuff and play
it!
Thanks,
Marisa
