Whilst the destruction of so many records was devastating, not all records were lost. Many were held in other archives and repositories and have survived. Referring to Dr. William Roulston’s RESEARCHING ULSTER ANCESTORS (Rev. Edn., 2018) extensive collections of records (estate, private and corporate) were held in repositories elsewhere – particularly Britain and the U.S.A. And Roman Catholic and Presbyterian church registers were totally unaffected as neither body had forwarded their records to the Public Record Office, Dublin. Estate rentals are particularly useful as they record dates and changes of name to leaseholds.
This is a great project.
