Hi. My ancestors were in adjoining Townlands of the same name Coolreaghs (Culreaghs), one part being in Derryloran Parish and one being in Lissan Parish.I've searched but can't find if there is a Protestant Householders 1740 list for Lissan Parish. Can anyone help, please? The names are Knipe, McGeagh (M'Gagh) of 'Coolreaghs'. I've located them in Derryloran Parish, and would like to see if they're also in Lissan Parish as they also had land in adjoining Unagh Townland.Thank you, Peggy, Canada.

Hello Peggy,

Thanks for your query re. the records of the 1740 Protestant Householders. The originals were completely destroyed in the old Public Record Office, Dublin in 1922, but many had been transcribed prior by the renowned Tenison Groves.  Sadly, only two Tyrone parishes had been transcribed, being Derryloran and  Kildress, both of which I have compiled into files and submitted to CTI Welcome to the Premier Website & Research Tool for Cos. Tyrone, Donegal, Londonderry & Fermanagh Genealogy (cotyroneireland.com)https://www.cotyroneireland.com/

I have  referred to Dr. William Roulston's essential "Researching Ulster Ancestors: Essential Genealogical Guide to Early Modern Ulster 1600-1800" (Ulster Historical Foundation, Belfast, 2018), for any reference to the Co. Londonderry section of Lissan parish, but nothing has survived. I thoroughly recommend this publication.

BTW, the Lissan Church of Ireland registers commence 1753 and have been filmed by the staff of PRONI, Belfast, where they are available for consultation,

All the best,
Len Swindley, Melbourne, Australia
