If that SDGT wasn?t so expensive I might give it a go. Oh and the side panniers won?t fit a helmet (I think?) which is kind of a bummer.
But it?s on my short list for sure. Whenever I decide to either love or leave this R1200RT anyway.

Yeah, Yeah, I'm far from the brightest bulb on the tree but MM has won me over as the Greatest Of This Time. Many stars've lined up for him but he's so consistently right there these days. I'm afraid I agree about Dovi, in another era he might've stolen, he's way beyond Sete Gibernau for instance, a Title but it's not gonna happen with a healthy MM on a Honda. Thing is Dovi is pretty much the best option at present. Jorge may have been the guy to get Ducati over the hump, or not. Casey Stoner, there's yer answer, is at least as talented as 93 but time's passing. Some of the young guys show fast so, as they said in Brooklyn, wait'll next year! As to the longer view, I've always loved what Cal Rayborn did on an iron XR to the Brits in the UK Easter time. Let's also not forget Hailwood. Finally the elektrickery on modern racers pretty much, for me, nullifies any considerations insofar as the GOAT, just sayin'... Phil/ NJ

Steve,
I have owned many bikes, ST1100s, ST1300s, 996, 998, air cooled and water cooled Multistradas (current bike is a ?14 Multistrada 1200 GT)
Some friends and I just completed a 2000+ mile ride through the European Alps and we rented 2019 BMW 1250 GSs.
I?m so sold. Best all around bike I?ve ever ridden. Just a thought.

But tall. Very tall. Like I can?t reach the side stand tall.
How?s the long distance wind protection on the GS? That?s always a concern for me on adv bikes.

Many of you know that the US Desmo "Ducks Head West" was this weekend in Erwin, TN. Many of you also know Stevo Ernst who is a regular attendee of all US Desmo events.
Stevo has reported that he and Randall (Stevo did not identify which US Desmo member Randall) were involved in a serious accident yesterday. Both are in serious condition in Johnson City, TN. Stevo reports that Randall is close to death.
I have no other info on this as Stevo post the initial report a bit over an hour ago.

Pags- BMW has several seats for the GS-

I'm of relatively short stature myself and have stayed away from the GS for
this reason in the past. Have you tried them with the low seat?

I have - but only the GSA with a low seat, and that was still a bit too
tall. A regular GS might work though. I'm only 5'5". Even the 800 GS is
way too tall!

So...
We thought the seat height would be an issue as well for one of our group. He is 5'6". The company we worked through (Adriatic Motorsports...excellent by the way...) provisioned a new 1250 GS for him with both a lower suspension and a lower seat and our 5'6" friend was completely comfortable on the bike and could touch both feet firmly to the ground with no issues.
As for wind protection, I found the airflow on the bike completely unobtrusive, comfortable to the point that I never really thought about it. No buffeting or related issues. That being said, it's not full coverage like an ST or bigger more touring oriented bike. I always found that my head stuck up high enough (I'm 6'3") over most fairings that unless I was on a BMW K1600...a bike I've spent some time on... or something big like that, I was always in air flow of one sort or another. The hand protectors are very effective.
