Thank you Len for all that you do for us and our research.
A tragedy for this poor widow to lose her two daughters this way.
It certainly makes you aware of how deaths with children can happen in
those days.
Discovering also one of my ancestors drowning at just aged 2.
The poor families suffering such loss.

Hi Len,
What a tragedy, and for a widow who needed all the hands she could
muster to manage the farm. That brings home just how fragile life is,
and was in those days. My own grandfather was the only surviving
offspring who lost his 7 siblings at various ages, through disease. In
one case losing 2 young children just a fortnight before Xmas day. What
a tragedy. I suspect that's why, eventually, the family moved to the
outskirts of Belfast where grandfather's 10yo brother died soon after.
They must have thought that they had done something wrong to offend
their God, as grandfather was one of the founders of the local church a
few years after they arrived in Belfast. Thank goodness for vaccines for
children, and improved health care diagnoses these days.

Gordon, how very true -- lovely post and sorry to hear of your
grand-dad's losses which were so heavy.

And Len, thank you -- I believe this is one of the "items to submit for
your enjoyment" that you mentioned, as this is quite likely one of my
forebearers, or their close relation... I've got a spreadsheet of
Venables info that I've captured from here and other sources however
have unfortunately still have not been able to put the pieces together!

Whilst I do work full time (and then some, I'm in Tech!), tonight I
pulled up the master Venables spreadsheet, and sadly could not put names
to these two young lasses nor their mum who had to experience such a
hard loss. There's one "possibility" however Jane Venables who is the
right age and who had married at the right time to have two young
children - in the right place even! would not have been "Widow Venables"
as she had married and so wouldn't have had the Venables name.

Mentions in the news article of Dungannon and (St. Michael's I presume)
Castlecaufield both figure somewhat prominently in the data I've
gathered, and it is somewhat close to the townland of Cormore (18 miles
by Google map, though don't have the exact coordinates), which is where
my Father's Grandfather was originally born... he and Annabella Foster
Venables (where my middle name originates!) are my connection to County
Tyrone.

Perhaps when I no longer work to pay the bills, which comes closer all
the time, I'll have time to truly dig in to the Venables side :-)

Best, Dave
