Great to hear from you Fiona!

The truth is that I am, in all reality, just a mere hack attempting to offer something positive to Ulster genealogy. Thanks for your support; it is a combination of pleasure and much hard work.

Sadly, neither your emigrant forebears nor mine are featured in such Australian personal announcements: seems that they just blended into colonial society rearing large families too busy to look back and dwell upon their origins.

Yes, some families are well represented in Australian personal notices; certainly, none of my Ulster forebears are. It's very much a hit-and-miss situation.
I am currently working on a similar file for Queensland which will be followed by another for New South Wales - the information they contain is extensive.

North American researchers should be aware that Australian colonies operated assisted immigration schemes commencing in the 1830s through to the 1890s (emigration at no cost) with the reality that some family members left for the US and Canada and others took up the advantage of free passages for Australia.
