Re the Hanna family of Co Tyrone.

I am a Hanna descendant, from *Robert Hanna (c.1798-1851) *leather merchant
of Strabane, and his wife *Eliza Hanna nee Holmes (1808-1886) *who was from
Donagheady, Co Tyrone.

Robert Hanna’s brother was *Dr John Wallace Hanna (1899-1858) *who
emigrated to Louisiana.

It has been suggested these brothers were related to the Whitehouse
Carrigans, but I cannot make the link. In fact, I know

nothing of their background, parents’ names, precise dates or place of
birth, where they grew up, or if other siblings.

The earliest record I have is the death of Robert’s first wife Martha
(maiden name ?Kerr) on 15th September 1827 aged 31, buried Patrick St
burial ground in Strabane.

Robert’s obituary refers to him being an early supporter of Methodism, but
after marriage they were Presbyterians.

Robert & Eliza Hanna had 13 children, several of whom went to USA and 1 to
NZ. One daughter Margaret McCrea Fleming nee Hanna/h, one of the few who
stayed in NI, was my great-grandmother.

Re the H on the end of the name - as far as I can see the Irish included it
but the Americans dropped it. I have omitted it for consistency, but
several family members used it including my ggm a/a.
Thank you for this website, it is great.
Anna Ward.
