Thanks for letting me look at this one again, Len, so I can despair of all those Devlins once more. My ancestor, Hugh Devlin, married Olivia Stinson at her Protestant church in Arboe on 4 Feb 1835. The extracted record I’ve seen does not specifically name parents, but witnesses are James and Hugh Devlin. No Stinsons are listed present for her. Their first child, Peter, was born in 1838 but probably died soon. He did not show up with them in St. Catherine’s, Ontario in 1839 when they emigrated. They were Catholic in Canada and on down to the present in the US. I have not been able to link either one to parents in years of pondering these records…and 2020 was to have been the year I went to Belfast to knuckle down to research. Ideas?

Hello All,
This is Carmen Ferguson's son (Tony). I'm writing to tell you that my
father died last Wednesday from complications with diabetes mellitus. I
will post an obituary in the Mid-Ulster Mail this week.
I notice that Katie Green wrote about the Devlins. One of my father's
life-long friends was Billy Devlin, who owned the Railway Bar in Cookstown.
I can't find any contact information for Billy. If anyone on this list
knows him, I would be grateful if they could let Billy know.
Sincerely,
Tony Ferguson

Hello Katie,
While you are waiting to travel to Belfast, you might consider trawling through the Ardboe RC baptismal records on CTI in your search for Devlins and possible siblings of your forebear

Have looked at Roots Ireland hoping that Arboe C of I records have been uploaded , but no luck. In Ireland, it was normal for marriages to take place in the bride’s church and then attend the church of the bridegroom.
There is a John Stenson recorded in Griffiths Valuation as occupying a cottage with an annual valuation of five shillings (generally two rooms constructed of fieldstones with a thatched roof) with no land attached, indicating he was a farm labourer: no Stinsons are recorded in the Arboe tithe applotment book.
The Arboe C of I registers commence 1775 and have been filmed by the staff of PRONI where they may be consulted and perhaps offer some useful data. Sure hope so.
All the best,
Len
