Thank you Dallas! I need to go buy Ian's book!
I will feel much better passing on to the new owner that it is an SS/SP.
Brad, Thank you for the additional data points as well.

Hi Staton. That sounds like a great project.
According to Ian Falloon in his book "Ducati Supersport", the 1996 SP frame was "916 gold". Wheels were the same as on the Superlight of that year, that is, silver-grey. I have a '95 SP in those colours.
Cheers

talking my experience with euro spec bikes we got in au from memory. not
sure about usa.
the "satin gold" colour as on your frame was used on 748/916 from the start
i think, and went across the board in 1997. the wheels on the ss and
monster were still the "glossy bronze gold" for 97 at least, not sure when
they went to the "satin gold". i think all the ssie had the "satin gold"
wheels.
maybe the early 916 wheels, with the DUCATI RACING on the rear, were the
"glossy bronze gold"? forget now.
all the replacement ss frames were the "satin gold". i don't recall any
variation in frame colour on the 4v models due to spec (or at all). not
sure when the first economy model appeared? they were the "satin gold"
until they were grey.
