The Gedmatch website has a free tool to compare your DNA with that of ancient individuals.
I thought that the science may not be very good.....
The comparison is made from cM10 down to 0.5. This is a tiny match, admittedly.
I didn't get any matches at 10 and 9.
At 8 the only match was for an individual who died 2000 BC on Rathlin Island. I have ancestors from Omagh, so not that far away.
At lower numbers there are matches with Russia and Luxemburg.
At 3cM, I got a match with someone who died around 3200BC in Ballyhatty. I have ancestors from Belfast, which is about 7 kilometres away.
I was impressed. It is free to subscribe to the site.
Their privacy policy looks pretty good, too.
I got nothing great than 6.
At 6, I have many matches from all over Europe.
In Ireland, I match Rathing 1, 2, 3 in Rathlin, at 2000, 1600 and 1900 BC,
respectively.
I match Ballynahatty at 3200 BC.
My Irish DNA is from Tyrone (50%) and Kerry (25%).
Thanks, Barry, for the fun exercise.
Mary
