3 years ago i had the same challenge.
I was ready for a comfy lomg distance sporty cruiser, touring, but not off-road.
After looking at MTS, BMW, Honda and others, i fell into a Kawasaki Concours.
1400.
No complaints!
Cost much less than any of the others..has the grunt that i need... all cases hold helmets..i can touch the ground..its comfy for all-day riding.
My longest trip so far has been from DC to Cape Cod and it did OK on PCH from Monterey down to Morrow, several times!
The screen is protective in rain, albeit warm behind it in summer heat.
I do my grocery shopping with it!
For my 5-10 , 190 stature, the seat, pegs and controls are perfect! And it is comfy for passengers.
Yeah..Nick McCabe at NA was a little disappointed when i rode it to WSBK at Laguna, but, hey..it was a matter of total economics..and options available.
Runs like a sewing machine! Fast, smooth and quietly, and in black, it's lovely to behold, IMHO,
