Wow, what a race.
It seems we're going to Valencia to determine the champion.
Not a lot of fighting and position swapping as in Australia, but pretty
darn edge of the seat, getting more and more so with each lap.
Pecco's start was amazing. I will go back and watch it again. It looked
like the perfect combination of Pecco being exactly on the money, and the
movements of other riders providing the perfect openings for him to come
through. Pecco said something in the post race interview about them making
changes to the launch setup that made for improvement.
Enea was unrelenting. The shots of the Ducati team members going a little
bit crazy were precious, as Enea pushed so hard and made some really close
moves on Pecco. Were they having heated discussions about sending Enea a
team order to back off and cede the race to Pecco? Had they sent those
orders and they were being discounted (remembering Jorge L and Andrea D)?
Enea is hungry, very hungry. He will be a formidable partner next year, if
partner is the best word.
And, kudos to Fabio, that he could squeeze so much out of that Yamaha to
get himself on the podium.
I also liked seeing Pecco's sister and girlfriend during the race. You
could tell his sister was watching her cell phone, but still, it looked
like both of them were locked in prayer.
So, let me see:
Tickets for Valencia event? Check.
Place to stay? Check
Train tickets? Check.
Pecco poster? In process. I've gotten camera time each of the last two
Valencia race weekends I've been to, with either a Dani P flag or a
Valentino R poster, so I'm trying to make it a hat trick of three in a row.
Definitely watching his sister and girlfriend was a highlight for me.
Also, it's interesting how somber the mood is as he enters the pitbox for
the first time approaching the race. Long, somber faces and hugs all
around. This is serious stuff, not just for the championship, but for life.

Agreed.
I don't think it was hyperbole when the commentators were talking about how
this moment was what Pecco has spent most of his life working towards; and
here it was.
Also, Ducati, especially the race team, has been working, and struggling,
for this moment for 15 years.

It isn't even over when the fat lady sings, cause that will be the Spanish
national anthem, which is before the race.
It's over when Pecco crosses the finish line no more than 13 points behind
Fabio (if I've got my math right).
Of course, mid-pack is a great place to get punted off track from.
So, in my fantasy life, Pecco has a clean Friday and Saturday and gets on
the first two rows of the starting grid. From there, he can manage his
race, finish the race, and be as competitive as he dare. I expect a lot
more great shots of the Ducati team sweating buckets, and Pecoo's sister
and girlfriend praying.
I can hardly wait - I want to start packing my bag now.

It was definitely one to watch, what a relief when they finally crossed the finish line. I only wish they had shown more of some of the other battles, but up front was sure fun/exciting/tense. There is some real talent on Ducs, we could be in for some great seasons. - Gene
