After being on the east coast for a few years, and hearing so much about it, I FINALLY rode down to check out Tail of The Dragon.
Many of you probably “know it”, but I felt like I had to do it at least twice.
:-)
Perfect for a Monster or a Scrambler. Not so much a Superbike or even a SuperSport.
I took my Concours…even worse for THAT 11 mile stretch.
It was worth the 12 hour one way trip!
12 hours down, the long way…through Pigeon Drop and Gatlinburg (never again!)…spend the night..do the Foothills Parkway, then up to Deal’s Gap..and back..through Knoxville and 40-81-66 home.
Some beautiful nature there though!!
Miata club, Camaro club and a few other assorted ‘organised’ groups. A heck of a show!
Here..about 1030 yesterday morning.

The road is wonderful but because of all the publicity it is a miserable
ride unless you can get there on a Wednesday morning and ride it before it
is filled with vehicles and LEO. Back when I first rode it maybe 1983, it
was empty and a blast to ride. Foothills Parkway is nice. Did you get to
ride the new extension? Shame you missed the Cherohala Skyway.

Check out staying at copperhead lodge in blue ridge GA then ride route 52 to dahlonega; and then to amicalola falls. From there there are a ton of nice mountain twisty roads.

Almost anywhere you ride from North GA to WV in the Blue Ridge Mountains
will be some of the best riding you will ever do. The only problem is from
when I moved to North GA back in 1984 and to now the amount of traffic has
increased exponentially. Also they have "improved" several roads like 64
from Cashiers to Highlands. Still many roads to ride with little traffic
but not as good as it was. Never been to Copperhead Lodge but it looks
like a wonderful place. Thanks for the tip.

I took a trip to the area with 2 friends in 2013. We had a Concours, CBR
1000rr and an 1100RT BMW. It was a great trip with nothing but riding the
beautiful roads in the mountains. The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge
Parkway and any other road that looked interesting, were all in our sites!
Stayed at Turkey Creek Campground near Almond NC for a week.

I was thinking the same Jim, the Cherahola is one of the best rides around
there and almost zero traffic. 28 down to Fontana dam is pretty good too.

28 is good from Highlands all the way south SC107, then take it back up to Sylva US74 and there are so many good roads from NoVa to get there. Tellico/Otter Creek off of 28 was good although I admit I have not ridden it in quite awhile.
We se to do the dragon on Monday coming back from races at Barber, te last time we did that back when it was slammed on a Monday ~11AM, no place to park at the bottom and I got blue lighted twice on the dragon, have not ridden the dragon since, plenty of other great roads.
