There may be some, Dorothy, but not to any great extent.
There are many eighteenth and nineteenth centuries references contained in the Papers of the Abercorn Estate (Cos Tyrone and Donegal) to the poaching of trees by tenants and others requiring timber for building and repairing cottages. Woodkeepers were employed to protect and conserve the numerous woods planted on the estate and guilty tenants were fined and threatened with cancellation of leases.
And several major military conflicts and wars have seen their removal for military use.

Hello all,
Timber was a valuable commercial commodity in the construction of houses and furniture and of great interest to the Irish Parliament which passed an act for planting and preserving timber trees and wood in 1705
Initially, it was intended that the parish be responsible for planting trees but the act was amended and the requirement to undertake planting fell upon landholders and leaseholders. Valuable and popular species were oak, fir, elm, walnut, poplar and alder.

Do we know what sot of trees were planted? I’d like to picture them in my imagination.
