Just a quick comment. Years ago, I understood this phenomenon, but too old anymore.
As background, our vision generally receives visual images at a rate of 30 images (frames) per second. Basically, under certain levels of trauma/stress (forget the physiological aspect) the eyes double the rate, up to about 60 images a second, some think a survival trait. Anyhow, as a result, the brain picks up the images, and the mind interprets the doubling as time slowing.

Never hit a bird, but did hit a surprising object in traffic on the 60
freeway in Los Angeles years ago.
It was just about dusk, traffic was heavy but moving around 40 mph when I
saw an odd bit of movement out the corner of my left eye. I turned my head
slightly, just in time to see a bowling ball hit the bottom of my left
foot, which was perched on the forward peg of my '63 rat Panhead. It felt
like someone teed off on the sole of my boot with a baseball bat. It
continued to bounce off cars and trucks after it hit me. What drew my
attention initially was the sound of cars hitting it before it got to me.
I limped for a few days after that encounter, but no other damage.
I've dodged pipe falling from a flatbed truck, a full grown Boxer dog
(which glanced off my right fork and my leg) as well as a child's pool that
was cartwheeling across my path out near Mojave in a brisk wind. But the
bowling ball takes the cake.
Anyone who did any ARRA, WSMC, AFM from 1985 -1988 at Willow Springs I've been posting some races on YouTube. Any interest you can check them out or subscribe to my channel, just enjoy some good racing while being locked up, no 109 heat or 80mph winds in the comfort of your home.
