Lately I've developed a desire to do some back road and off road exploring, nothing to serious, there are sections of the https://ridebdr.com/mabdr/ that I would, like to ride. Finding an ADV bike with a seat height under 33" has been a challenge. found a couple of possibilities, RE Himalayan, Verysys 300X, but then I thought about the Ducati Scrambler Urban Enduro. Anyone on the list have any experience with this model off road? Thanks - Gene

Hey Gene
From what I have read they are OK for dirt and gravel roads but not really
up to serious off road riding. The Desert Sled is for that. From what you
describe I think it might work. They are not too heavy and the power is
more than adequate. I have a 2018 Cafe Racer and find its fueling to be
perfect and I enjoy it more than anything in recent memory.

Hey Gene -
I use this for lighter off road rides. Forest service roads, some
singletrack stuff. This is a 2015 and, quite frankly, the stock
suspension sucked big time. I ended up getting Ohlins for the front and
rear. It transformed the bike into a very competent high speed fire road
bike.
I have avoided singletracks because my bad shoulder will get me into
trouble. Once I heal from the replacement I will give it a go again.
Flat footing is great for us vertically challenged guys. I tossed the heavy
stock Termi cans for a Shift Tech can. The sound is a tad loud but it
definitely sounds like a Ducati.

Hi Gene,
I had an Urban Enduro for about a year but didn't do any hard core off-roading on it, just some fire roads and mild dirt trails. The Urban Enduro is not a dirt bike in any sense other than the mildly knobbly tires. The suspension was way too soft with no way of easily adjusting it. I had plans to modify it to make it more dirty-worthy but then I heard about and saw the Desert Sled and knew I had to have that. I traded the UE for a 2017 Desert Sled and while I loved the UE, I LOVE the DS.
So, yes, it was way too tall for me. I'm 5'3" with a 27" inseam so I had to literally hang half my butt of it just to get a foot flat on the ground. With the stock seat, it was 34.9" tall. Yikes. So I bought the Ducati Low Seat which made it 33.9" tall. Still Yikes but better. Both seats by the way, were extremely painful to sit on for more than 30 minutes. I had my stock seat altered so it's much more comfortable but the guy didn't cut it down as I instructed so it's still 34.9". I used that seat for my trip to Barber but after that, I used my Low Seat for my regular weekend and around town rides.
But...it was still too tall. I dropped it on each side due to the lack of a good foot purchase. So I made the decision to lower it. Being short, I've never fit perfectly on any bike. Especially since I only rode sport bikes. I've never wanted to lower any bike because I didn't want to compromise the abilities for which they were engineered. So it was a hard decision to lower it.
I found a lowering bracket from wildhairaccessories.com that lowered it an inch. Which would bring it to 32.9. I had a local shop here cut down my Low Seat but add some gel padding so now it's another half inch lower. They had to cut down and reweld the kickstand which gave me hesitation but needed to be done. So now my Desert Sled sits at 32.4" which is very reasonable for me.
I'm never going to be a fast off-road rider so I rationalized that I could afford to lose the 1" of ground clearance, which I totally can. The only other negative I can say about lowering it is that it has lost some of its presence. Before it sat high and majestic, foreboding even. Now it almost looks like a regular Scrambler so it doesn't stand out as much.
Hope this helps, Mario
