749R and the 999R (above 06) still my dream bikes.
I remember when they came out, I parked my 748 next to it. Feeling smart,
till I rode it...

I bought a 749 not too long after that.

Sold my 749R with the stock steel tank on it. The buyer was going to buy
my light weight FuelCel composite tank but has not been able to complete
the transaction so I am offering it up for sale. $1,200 painted to match
with fuel cap and anti slosh foam. No fuel pump. No dings or scratches
paint is in good shape. Not show quality but you would not be embarrassed
to ride with it to a bike night. It is 8.4 pounds lighter than the stock
tank.

I will be at the swap meet at Barber Vintage Festival this October and will
bring the tank there to sell if anyone is interested.

The 999/749 series was never embraced by the majority of the Ducati
community but if you ever rode one you knew it was a step up from the
916/+++ group.  I had a 2005 999 but found it too much of everything and
then got the 2005 749R which was just perfect for me.  I liked the fact you
were not parched up on top of it like the 916 which I had at the same
time.  It was also easier to manage the power while leaned over.  The only
reason that I sold them is at 73 the fetal riding position is something
that I just cannot do for protracted amount of time.  I like to go on day
rides or long weekends and I would be in so much discomfort during the ride
and especially after the ride it just made no sense.

I just replaced my 899 Panigale with a new edition Supersport S and the
difference in riding position is just what I needed.  I get to keep the
look of the Panigale series without the pain.  The 749R was replaced with a
KTM 790 Duke which is also a hoot and way more comfortable.

Just need to sell of some of the parts from when my R was a track day bike.
