Haystack types came to my mind, too, as James Huey suggested, for the
photo of "Is it Carrie on her 1895 vacation in Scotland?" Also, since
the edge of the body of water looks man-made, with a concrete curbing or
edging, it's not a natural lake with meandering shore-line. A reservoir
or canal (or waterworks) appears to be part of the image background. The
fashions clearly indicate 1890s, and the additional clues fit the
excursion described in the 1895 diary. I think this is a "By George,
you've got it!" episode for Dave Vanable.
