Jeez, Peer, the last thing you need right now is a gun. In your anger, would you have shot the old man? Have you ever owned a gun before?
do you know how to use one? Do you know the rules of handling a gun?

(Every gun is loaded, even if you just checked it, treat it like its loaded. Do Not Point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot!!)

A gun would have made the situation worse. What if the old man had a gun and shot you and/or Mr. Kadis? Even if you just pointed a gun at the old man, the charges against you would have been much more severe.
With a gun, you become emboldened, you will stay in a situation where you should just walk away. Even if you have a gun, the best solution is to just walk away. My Step-Brother shot himself in the head and died the first day he got a gun. He didn?t know how to use it, no idea. It wasn?t suicide, he was just walking back down the hallway to put it away after showing it to his brother and a friend. A stupid, tragic end to a young life.
I own several guns, but I have no desire to carry one with me. You are more likely (and statistics show) to shoot yourself or someone you know rather that protect yourself. I don?t carry a gun, but I carry Pepper Spay in my car and my motorcycle. My wife and two daughters also carry Pepper Spray. I?ve used it once, and would not have wanted to have a gun in that situation instead.

Settle down, cool off and think about it. Seriously think about it, not in anger. If you still want to buy a gun, sit down and think about it some more.

I know there are many gun owners on this list who probably carry. I don?t want to start a debate about guns or the second amendment, just use common sense.

Well, believe it or not, the following happened to me last Monday when Mr. Kadis and I were down at Tresidder for lunch:  Just when I had paid for my food, I could hear someone close by being very loud.  Unfortunately, there were only empty seats at the very same table where this loud person was sitting (yep, he was on his cellphone) -- so there were no other options than to sit at the same table, i.e., I decided to sit as far away as possible just to avoid being part of his conversation.  Anyhow, Kadis came with his tray of food and sat down next to me, and also he was bothered by this loud cellblabber.  Then, I did something which I now deeply regret -- I walked over to this guy, who's in his mid seventies, (it turned out that he's this "very prominent" visiting professor in physics from MIT).  I asked if he could please go outside or perhaps at least lower his voice.  I might have sounded a little rude (as always).  Anyhow, this old fart looks at me with this very demeaning look,
and says something like; "Hey foreign boy, why don't YOU go outside".  Okay, that was it.  I took aim at his cheek and launched my fist as hard as I could.  Unfortunately he managed to slightly duck down, so I hit him right in his nose... and I'm telling you; hitting that nose-bone hurt -- I thought I would pass out from the pain it caused, (real fist-fights are nothing like in the movies... at least now I know that).  Kadis rushed over to break us apart... even if there was nothing to break up; the old dude was bent over in his chair and I was jumping around holding my fist.  Not long after I was brought down to the Sheriff's office in HANDCUFFS.  Had to give statements (or whatever it's called) and was then booked for the night.  I called my mom in Norway who helped with the bail-money.  By the way, so far it's only my mother who is standing up for me (though she's a bit "surprised" that I would do such a thing..).  Even Guri (who was the first I called) said that she has seen thi
s coming for quite some time, and that I never seem to learn... that I should have listened to her bla bla-haaa (i.e. no support from her).  Anyhow, yesterday the Stanford Daily had a blurb about it, and of course they had to get their facts wrong; they didn't mention ANYTHING about this guy being loud on his cellphone, and even worse, they said that I was a musician(!) and also spelled my name; Peer Lamda!!  All FAKE NEWS!  For the last few days I've been calling around for a lawyer.  I'm told that this professor, Pascal Picotte (tell me; who doesn't deserve to be beaten up with a name like that?!) is getting some powerful legal advisors and is now prepared to raise legal-hell at my expense.  Anyhow, earlier today I went with Jack (my Irish Ducati friend) to the San Carlos gun-store where I put down some money on a new snub-nose 357, and hopefully I'll get it as soon as the background-check & waiting-period is over.  If you have any experience with this, or even know whether the cr
iminal-records are logged before the trial or after a conviction -- let me know.  Anyhow, Jack says he'll happily help me getting this gun no matter what, because he agrees that this Pascal dude needs to learn how rude it is being loud on a cellphone.

Well... just relax everyone -- the only thing that happened was that we were sitting next to a table with a loud cellphone-talker.  I wouldn't even dare asking him to pass the salt.
