Hi everyone,
If you weren't already aware, NPR President and CEO Katherine Maher and
PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger will be testifying tomorrow morning
(7amPT) before the House Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE)
Subcommittee. The hearing titled, "Anti-American Airwaves: Holding the head
of NPR and PBS Accountable," will be chaired by Marjorie Taylor Greene
(R-GA).
Most listeners do not make a distinction between our station and NPR, so
I'd like to provide some guidance on how we are approaching what will be a
flurry of media coverage and potential criticism of public media.
First, this is not a time to make on air comments about the hearings or
resulting media coverage. NPR will be covering the hearings, and it is
possible that our newsroom will independently produce a story with a local
focus. If it is appropriate or necessary, KCBX will communicate a message
about how these hearings and any future funding changes will affect the
station.
If you would like to advocate for KCBX and public media, I encourage you to
sign up for updates at My Public Media (www.mypublicmedia.org). We'll be
adding My Public Media graphics and information on both social media and on
our homepage.
If you'd like to preview Katherine Maher's testimony, about how funding
cuts will affect local radio stations and a bit more, she was just
interviewed on the podcast "Masters of Scale

Finally, I wanted to thank you for helping us meet — and exceed — our
pledge drive goal in record time. It is clear that our listeners love the
station, including all of you!

Thanks for the info and guidance, Frank. For those of you who clicked the
link to sign up for updates and got a broken link, here’s a link that works:

Even though our representatives are in favor of funding public media, I’d
like to reiterate what Frank said at our on-air meeting: It’s still
important that they hear from us. And when you write to Carbajal, please
thank him for all his support and efforts on behalf of public media.
Thank you, everyone!

Hi everyone,
I won't leave any online comments at this point, but I just heard the opening remarks by Marjorie Taylor Greene and they were disgusting.

I joined the campaign on Protect My Public Media last night, and have already received a replay from Senator Adam Schiff, pasted below.
Dear Ms. Younger:
Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding funding for public media. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.
I strongly support access to public media, which provide news, weather alerts, and educational resources to millions of American families, and believe that attacks on their funding are terribly misguided. Like many Americans, local public television and radio stations have profoundly impacted – and indeed enlightened my family throughout our lives. For almost six decades, parents and children alike have praised the educational programming that the PBS offers, such as Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and Arthur. Likewise, NPR offers a rare and valuable service to adults: independent, informative, and impartial news and general programming.
Throughout my tenure in Congress, I have advocated for continued funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting through the appropriations process, and I will continue to push back against efforts to cut funding for NPR, PBS, and other public media organizations. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind when the Senate considers this issue.
Transparency has been a goal of mine throughout my time in Congress. You can find detailed information on every bill introduced in the Senate on Congress.gov, including the summary and full text of the legislation, which Senators have co-sponsored it, and the most recent action taken by Congress.
An ongoing job of a Senator is to help constituents solve problems with federal agencies, access services, and get their questions answered promptly. On my website, I offer a guide to the services my office can provide, as well as a contact form where you can share your priorities with me. You can also connect with me online via Facebook or Twitter, and you can always reach my office by phone at (202) 224-3841.
Thank you again for your thoughts. I hope you will continue to share your views and ideas with me.
