And a big thank you from me as well Len! I’m over from Australia with my 94yr old mother who lives in New Zealand. We had a brick wall with her Great Grandfather James Young Henry with the only clue being that he was born in Plumbridge about 1830. I’ve been unable to find his baptism records or marriage record for his parents. However after DNA testing mum, looking at naming patterns, trawling through this great site and others, our Henry/Young tree is ever growing with other names added like Ballantine, McFarland, Knox, Anderson to name a few! It’s great to be able to verify an hypothesis with DNA matches, even though they may be small. Endogamy seemed to be rife in the 1800’s. Shows how important it is to DNA test your eldest relatives too.

Do you have any Laughlin DNA matches for your Mum? My ancestors Rachel
Laughlin and Joseph Ballantine married at this church in 1832 but I think
Joseph was from Badoney Upper which may be closer to Plumbridge? Margaret
Laughlin married Charles McFarland in the same church in 1821. I have DNA
matches to their McFarland descendants also here in NZ. Can I email you
direct to compare? I won't expect a speedy answer.

appreciated.Yes, there are many Ballantines (including several
variants from the period when phonetic spelling was the norm). I have
requested Jim bundle together all pertinent records for several
parishes and both Bodoney Lower and Upper are included in the new
