Irish Land Claims Commission - Anything for co. Tyrone and Derry ....?

Hello Listers

Irish Land Claims Commission

See news item in the Irish Times as below

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/treasure-trove-includes-record-for-almost-all-land-in-ireland-1.4762067

Also at    https://www.historyireland.com/volume-22/records-irish-land-commission/

Anyone with insight or experience as to whether there are records for county Tyrone, Donegal, Londonderry still “hidden” amongst the papers of the Irish Land Claims Commission?

If so, how do we access them, how can we assist in enabling these too to be digitised and shared?

Finding and releasing these would make a wonderful “Community Project” for 2022!

Kind regards

Dave Mitchell

Dave

I am not sure if there are any land records for these counties lurking
in the Irish Land Commission records, unless perhaps they were cross
border estates.

I know that most of the records for the counties you mention were
transferred to the Public Record Office in Belfast quite some time ago.

They are not digitised unfortunately and I have not used them, because I
didn't know of their existence until a year ago, until Dr Des McCabe
gave a Zoom talk about them.  They are open to in-person researchers,
unlike those in Dublin.

Very interesting, Evelyn.
Is it possible to give us and details for locating these records at PRONI?

Happy 2022 Everyone!

Very interesting. Digitising is duplication, which is a safe guard to
accidental destruction of the originals, such as what happened to the
records lost in the Four Courts fire. An essential precaution in any
case and deserving of some urgency. Wider public access will be more
popular, but of lower priority to having a second copy held elsewhere.
