As someone who directs live television, I can say Vicki is correct, there is way too much distance involved, even when using fiber optic camera cable. Plus there is no alternative route to get to the various locations. Racetracks and golf are two sports that take up a lot of cable and time to setup, but those distances are only 1/10 of what Pikes Peak would require.
An event like that is better covered by individual camcorders (like the cameras that cover the news), shooting documentary style and the footage edited together to make a show.

No for a number of good reasons. (All of which I?m guessing at)
including:
The mountain itself is huge and would cost a fortune to set up, there
isn?t much (any) cell coverage for communication, once in place you
can?t
move up or down the mountain, and the racing schedule delay?s are
endless.
Plus, every year around 1pm it snows or hails or gets too windy and they
call it off. If the wind picks up the medical helicopter can?t fly so
more
delays. All at 14,200 feet. Also, many people get altitude sick and
once
you get the headache you better stop working now and go lay down and
this
happens to everyone so your crew could be hampered at any point.
Tv via taped coverage by say, drone or some combo yes, but live tv,
don?t
hold your breath.
This place is crazier than the Isle of Man...
