Hi Len thanks so much for this. It helps with my research with the McKenna line. I am having great difficulty researching them and the Carney/McCarney/Kearney/McKearney line any have come from this area too. Both names appear on this Clogher Parish record which is where I know the McKennas originated particularly Beltany. Do any records predate this Griffiths Valuation as my forbears were born about 1790 to 1820ish? Once again thanks for this researched information. It has helped. Hi Jim Thank you for directing me to this. I have used this before but had no success. So I have looked again and I am still meeting the same problem. I assume that records do not exist for births and marriages as early as the 1800 - 1830s. I think that is the case. I have found some possible burial records but unsure what to do with this information. My forbears seemed to have moved to Liverpool, England as early as the mid 1820s. Can you advise me at all? Hello again Helena, Things do not look good for your research as there are no surviving records (or they may have never been kept) that could assist your research in Clogher parish. There were two Catholic chapels in the parish (Clogher and Aughintaine (Fivemiletown) but no registers of baptisms prior to1856 and marriages before 1826 (Clogher) https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0296 and the Aughintaine registers (baptisms and marriages) commence 1870 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0286 I guess you have referred to these? I wish the news could be better, but the reality is that this is the situation with records in Ireland.
