1962 Ducati Bronco

Howdy,

I found a 1962 Ducati Bronco on the local FB marketplace.  It is said to run after just a few kicks, but the owner said he didn’t watch it shift through gears.  It was run via an external tank, so I am imagining a tank cleaning will be the first thing.

The owner has the original paperwork from when it was bought in 1962 and a Title.  Cosmetically it appears to be extremely worn but original.  Seat is in rough shape, but from pics I found on line, it looks like the original seat. I think the wheels are close to being done for from corrosion, but I’ll know more tomorrow when I see it in person.  It looks like the tinwork is all there.  I’ve found limited info on line, but overall, it just seems like it would be fun to tinker with in the garage.  I scheduled to check it out tomorrow afternoon.

Here is the ad if you want to take a look.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1102711056760386/?ref=messenger_banner

My goal would be to get it ridable and mechanically sound as possible.  Maybe some point down the road consider a restoration of some sort.  I really like the tank for some reason.

Does anyone had any idea on possible value?  I don’t know if it is really worth a couple hundred bucks or if he has it priced fairly at $1000.    I figure a running engine in and of itself has some value to me from a tinkering in the garage perspective.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Staton

Staton,
I know nothing about this model, but can tell you from looking, that:
A. This bike is a dog
B. You've got to buy it.
C. You will spend at least 5 times what it costs to restore it, not
counting all the hours of labor.
D. I'm sorry I am not doing Hill House anymore, cause this bike, properly
restored, would be the gem that resides in the living room.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun doing it.

Yeah.  Motorcycles don’t need to make sense. I’ve bought worse just because I liked the logo.  Broncos aren’t necessarily all the desirable but who cares.  If you love the look of the tank that’s probably enough.

As for value?  Well if you spent a grand on it and sold it for $600 but had some fun petting it, I’d say that’s worth it. I lose money on damn near every bike I buy, not counting my time at all.

Talk him down a bit, feel good about it, be happy.  Nobody gets out alive.

Tony,

Seeing this pic of a similar one partially restored is pushing me in the same direction you are describing.

https://www.bike-urious.com/partial-restoration-1960-ducati-bronco/

All good points.  And yes, the tank is enough for me.

The fixing it time is more than half the fun.  Even if sold later for a $ loss, it’s a win in the fun memory category.

I'm not sure whether I should be honored or offended. I thought we were
already best friends, but am so glad we are now.
If it helps you make this unwise purchase, I still have not gotten off my
ass and started my Cucciolo, after my first failed attempt some few years
ago. Damn thing was fully restored, and just needs someone who has a clue
about what they are doing to get it running. Maybe next week.
Good luck.

Staton,
I know nothing about this model, but can tell you from looking, that:

Howdy,

I found a 1962 Ducati Bronco on the local FB marketplace.  It is said to
run after just a few kicks, but the owner said he didn’t watch it shift

cleaning will be the first thing.

The owner has the original paperwork from when it was bought in 1962 and

a

Title.  Cosmetically it appears to be extremely worn but original.  Seat

is

in rough shape, but from pics I found on line, it looks like the original
seat. I think the wheels are close to being done for from corrosion, but
I’ll know more tomorrow when I see it in person.  It looks like the

tinwork

is all there.  I’ve found limited info on line, but overall, it just

seems

like it would be fun to tinker with in the garage.  I scheduled to check

it

out tomorrow afternoon.

Here is the ad if you want to take a look.

My goal would be to get it ridable and mechanically sound as possible.
Maybe some point down the road consider a restoration of some sort.  I
really like the tank for some reason.

Does anyone had any idea on possible value?  I don’t know if it is really
worth a couple hundred bucks or if he has it priced fairly at $1000.    I
figure a running engine in and of itself has some value to me from a
tinkering in the garage perspective.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

I need it like a hole in the head, but I'm going to try to buy it tomorrow as long as it will run and shifts through the gears. And assuming nothing is rusted all the way through. LOL.
