Thanks to the group for this information on County Tyrone schools.
I see that my 3rd great-grandaunt, Margaret Lynch (née Maclear), worked at Gort School. Does anyone know where in the Gortin area this school is/was ?
Margaret Lynch is on the gravestone along with my 3rd great grandparents, John and Martha Chambers at the Newtownstewart cemetery.

Tom - since it is in Errigal Keerogue Parish, there is a townland of Gort
in the parish; therefore one might assume it was within that townland. If
you go to our Townlands Index at
https://www.cotyroneireland.com/townlands/townlands.html there is a map.
Good Luck

Thanks for your replies.
Jim, I see the map but would like to superimpose it on a current map.
Ian, I was not able to bring up the chrome-extension.

I've found this townland site to be useful for linking legacy townland
names to modern-day locations... here's Gort:

Ah, perfect, Dave. Thanks. I forgot about this site. I expected it to be closer to Gortin. But, I’ve driven through that area.

Glad the site / link was useful... while I enjoy the hand-drawn maps we
have on CoTyrone, I also found it really helpful to be able to use the
GPS coordinates that townlands.ie is able to offer.
I feel as though the "sense of place" is key to understanding our Irish
ancestry... Elwyn has shared how courting used to happen on foot and by
horseback, before the bicycle... that has really stuck with me as I
think about who might / might not be connected with each other. I
usually have Google Maps up while doing research, as the distance can
often tell me "yes, probably" or "no, not likely"

We do forget have drastically transport and communication has changed. My mother, is a descendant of a Kinsley from Omagh in the 1830's (although I think they may have changed the name from McKinley). She grew up in a small village in Yorkshire. I constantly ask her about close relatives, and her most common response is, "I didn't know them. If they moved away from the village, we usually never saw them again". This was the 1940-50's.

Greetings Tom,
I'm having trouble connecting Margaret Lynch of Gort School, Errigal Keerogue Parish, Co. Tyrone to the McClear family of Newtownstewart and have collated some records to support my concerns. Margaret appears to be part of a family well-connected to Gort School with her father as schoolmaster and supported by her two siblings Ellen & Bridget.
