Finally had a minute to look closely at the 175 on Bring A Trailer. Was wondering why the price was so cheap. At first glance the bike is decent and the numerous parts it needs to be perfect are hard to find in general but not unobtanium. The deal killer is the frame number is restamped. Why is a great question but it's done with a non-ducati font so it's not a sloppy original stamping, it's been changed...

As of 1:23 pm, there is an hour to go in the auction and it's still only $4940.00. I've never watched any Bring a Trailer auction before but I'm guessing there will be a flurry of activity right at the end of it, just like on Ebay. Or how Ebay used to be...haven't been active on there in years and years.

I'm also watching a carbon fiber bodied Factory Five Cobra Roadster that is up to $19,250, a 1971 Porsche 914 that is up to $6400 and a 1965 Triumph TR4 that is up to $11,300. All with less than 2 hours to go. The only one showing any activity is the Cobra. Personally, if'n I had the dough, that TR4 would be in my garage! Ah...who am I kidding....ALL of them would!

How does this place work? Is it like eBay where you go to where ever the
person lives that is selling or is it a location where all the bikes are
present? I too have never looked at this site before.

It's like eBay but the auctions keep going as long as someone is bidding. Two minutes of no bids after the end time and it's yours.

Beware Jim, it's a huge time suck and you'll regret some life decisions when you want that pristine BMW E24 M6 but you don't have the requisite $90K. Bewilderingly, a Honda Civic CRX sold for $32K a couple of weeks ago.

I've sold a car and a motorcycle on BaT, as well as schemed ownership of a
thousand interesting vehicles only to be foiled by reality or other
bidder's bolder claims.
Vehicles are globally sourced, they provide a virtual marketplace to peruse
and their best feature, IMO - a very informed commentariat who generally do
a great job of objectively assessing condition and concerns to ease the
anxiety of a significant purchase conducted from afar.
I've been mostly pleased as a seller, hope to find out one of these days
that the buying experience is likewise pleasant.
The fees on both sides are dramatically lower than somewhere like Mecum or
Barrett Jackson, but the quality of the vehicles has been pretty
consistently similar.
My '91 851 Strada will likely be posted up on BaT also; shortly if I get
the belt service done before riding season ends, or else next spring.

Well for what it's worth the seller seems very solid and he says it's the photo and the frame paint. In person it looks right.

Jim,
Sellers are from around the world.
A mix of dealers & private parties.
Vehicles are generally in the sellers possession.
Vehicles for sale have to be accepted/approved by BaT’s owner.

The clock also resets with each bid in the last 30 secs or so until no one submits another bid.
So while the auction may end in 1 min it may take 5-10mins for people to stop bidding.
